Chapter One :Chapter 1

"Why haven't she come out yet?"

"Honey, do you think my daughter will recognize us? We've been apart for so many years. I'm afraid that the child will blame us..."

In an orphanage located in a remote town, a middle-aged couple was anxiously waiting for their daughter.

The woman appeared to be well-maintained and elegant, yet her expression was full of anxiety.

The man was polite and righteous. He gently comforted his wife, "Don't be afraid. The child will be very happy to come home with us!"

Eighteen years ago, after the disappearance of their daughter, they had been looking for her for many years. Recently, they finally got the news. They rushed over as soon as possible.

About ten minutes later, two figures came from afar.

The couple looked at the striking and well-groomed young woman standing next to the Director.

Her long ponytail hung down along the back of her head. Her palm-sized face was like a delicate porcelain doll. She was wearing a neat white t-shirt and jeans, and a pair of navy blue canvas shoes.

The moment he saw her, his wife, Sharon, burst into tears. "Yes, yes, yes. She is our daughter, my poor child!"

Her husband, Kennett, also had teary eyes. He held his wife's hand tightly and comforted her.

However, the young girl looked at the couple expressionlessly, which formed a sharp contrast with their emotional excitement.

The director introduced, "Mr. Cole, Mrs. Cole, this is your daughter, Emily."

Then she turned to the girl. "Emily, they are your biological parents. They want to take you home."

Emily looked up at the two people who wanted to say something but stopped on second thought. She said lightly, "Hello."

There was an obvious alienation in her tone. Kennett frowned slightly.

Sharon was immersed in the joy of their reunion. She didn't notice anything unusual at all. She rushed up and hugged her tightly, crying with tears of joy, "My dear daughter, I miss you so much. I've wronged you for so many years..."

Her sudden approach made Emily's body tensed momentarily. She instincttively felt the urge to push her away, yet she found herself unable to do so, leaving her hand suspended in the air.

"Director, can we speak in private," said Kennett. The Director nodded.

After they left, Kennett whispered, "Director, Emily won't..."

The Director observed him gesturing with his finger, understood what he meant, so he quickly explained, "There is no need for concern; Emily is the smartest child in our hospital. She has been a genius since she was a child. Currently, she is just busy with her studies and is not very good at socializing."

Kennett exhaled deeply, feeling a sense of relief. He believed that as long as she was not mentally challenged, it was fine. As for whether she was a genius or not, he did not care.

Emily was able to interpret the conversation through the movements of his lips and gestures.

After expressing his thanks to the Director, Kennett ushered Sharon and Emily into the vehicle. Once inside, he retrieved a newly purchased mobile phone along with a bank card, and handed them to Emily. "Emily, since it's our first meeting. I don't know what you like, so I didn't bring you a gift. Here is one hundred thousand dollars for you to spend as you wish."

Emily appeared momentarily taken aback, to which Sharon added, "This is a little gift from us. Please accept it, and we will gradually make amends in the future."

She looked up at the two of them and only to see their faces full of guilt. She nodded and took the card. "Thank you."

...

Shortly after the Cole family's vehicle left, a luxury off-road vehicle approached slowly and came to a halt on the spot they had just vacated.

The driver got out of the car and walked into the yard. After a while, he returned to the car, turned his head and said respectfully, "Boss, the Cole family took her away."

A man sat in the back seat of the car.

A white shirt paired with black trousers, complemented by a neatly trimmed short hair, creates a striking appearance that exudes an air of sophistication.

However, his piercing eyes and cold demeanor change the impression he gives off, leaving onlookers feeling uneasy and reluctant to meet his gaze directly.

Seeing that the man did not say a word, the driver cautiously inquired, "Shall I go to the house and ask for her directly?"

Despite the Cole family esteemed status in East City, they felt compelled to show respect to this people.

Upon hearing this, Liam's gaze paused for a moment. A solemn expression flashed across his face before he slowly said, "There's no need."

However, the driver was puzzled. He had obviously been looking for her for so long, why would he choose to give up now?

He couldn't understand what his boss was thinking, he refrained from asking any further questions.

The man's cold voice broke the silence once more: sounded again. "I will take care of her matters personally from now on."
